Let’s take a break from all the wedding preps, and talk about everyone’s favorite pastime, especially during the holidays — eating.

So, Beej and I were at MoA yesterday, doing our Christmas shopping, and at sometime before 7pm, we decided to have dinner.  It so happened that we were around the IMAX area so we decided to dine at Don Henrico’s.  When we got to the ristorante, there was a waiting list for indoor tables, so I asked for us to be listed, and we were at no. 5.  The receptionist didn’t even bother to sit us somewhere, so we looked, found and sat on one of the outdoor tables.  We also had to go get a menu ourselves so we could start picking what to order while we waited.

Anyway, eventually we were able to get in, we sat down, but nobody came to us to take our orders, or to even give us a menu.  I got hold of one of the managers walking by and gave him our orders – shrimp pasta with olive oil, and beef calzone (I had them memorized), he acted like he didn’t want to talk to us, and passed us over to one of the actual waitresses.  She said our orders would arrive in 15-20 minutes.  I look at my watch, it was 7:10pm.

Beej and I talk a bit, and go over our Christmas list, and by 7:30pm our orders hadn’t arrived.  The couple beside us (who ordered around 5 minutes after us) already got their food by this time.  As I was about to call a waiter, here comes our pasta.  Beej and I both exclaim: “Eto na yun?“.  The presentation of our food was awful.  I know olive oil is just olive oil, but our noodles looked like they came straight from the strainer or something.  Plus, the tiny shrimps looked undercooked.  But heck, this is Manila, and we were hungry, so we started digging in.  The shrimps were awful!  They were too soft, parang napirat, and we had to put (a lot of) pepper on the pasta just so it could have flavor.  We were almost done with the pasta, it was already 7:40pm, and I asked Beej to followup on our other order.  “Baka kung ano pa ang masabi ko pag ako ang nagtanong.”  Beej called one of the managers, followed up on our order, the manager left, and when he got back, he said the calzone would be done in 6 minutes.  WTF.  Back to the pasta I guess.

Here’s the first dealbreaker.  As we were about to finish our pasta, Beej said, “Bakit ganun, parang may pakpak yung isang pepper.“  She saw one of those small fruitflies swimming in the olive oil of our pasta.  We called for the manager again, and showed the fly.  “Dumapo po ba habang kumakain kayo?“  Aba, nagmamalinis agad.  I said, “Hindi, kanina pa yan andyan.“  The manager asked if we would like to have it replaced, I said no, just take it off our bill.  So he got it off our table, and came back with our calzone.

At this point, my appetite had gone away, so Beej went ahead to get a slice of the calzone.  I noticed she was having a hard time cutting it.  When she opened it up, the dough was undercooked!  I asked her to talk to the manager again, and that I didn’t want to say anything, for fear of making a scene.  I said, “Ayoko ng ganito, tayo pa ang kontrabida. “  When the manager arrived, he was even defending the cook.  “It looks cooked just right, ma’am sir”.  Hindi na ako nakapagpigil.  I opened the calzone wide open, and said “Mukha bang luto yan?“  The inside of the calzone was still soft, like it had barely seen the inside of an oven.

We asked for the bill, paid for just our orange juice, no tips of course, and left.

10 minutes later, we were happily eating our cheese pizza and spaghetti with meatballs at Sbarro.

Don Henrico’s, you suck.

… as a free lunch.  Or dinner, as the case may be.  :P

Last Saturday night, as we were about to wrap up a whole day of TV show marathons and kakiage at Beej’s, my fiancee received an unusual phone call.  All I heard from her was “Yes… ok… yes… ok… thanks.”  Apparently, she had just won free hotel accomodations (3D/2N) at some choice destinations!  Both of us sensed “scam” immediately, but when she received the supposed text confirmation afterwards, and after a quick check of the raffle ticket (which luckily, she had still kept), and some websites, it seemed to be legit.  It was supposedly in relation to a raffle we joined at a bridal fair we attended last month.  I thought to myself — did we just win a free honeymoon to Boracay?

It so happened that Beej’s and her mom’s trip to DV yesterday (for off-the-rack gowns) was cancelled due to schedule conflicts, so we had time to visit the hotel, where we could claim the prize.

To make a long story short, we wasted 3 hours of our lives (it was just supposed to be a 1.5 hr presentation) for a free “buffet” dinner (there were only 2 viands – a badly cooked lechon kawali, and some meaty sauce thingy) and a time sharing luxurious vacation plan that we will never be able to afford.

Lesson learned.

Is it possible for a person to feel happy and sad at the same time? I find it weird, but it is what I feel as I am writing this post.

I am happy because something I did paid off. What is it? Well, it’s for me to know and for you to find out. ;)

I am sad because my Benjie is not yet well. I feel helpless because there is nothing I can do to take away the pain he feels. Sometimes, I wish that I could take over and give him a break from being sick… even for just one day. :(

Wow. I didn’t blog the whole month of May (well, technically, I did, but that’s not the point). It’s just been one hell of a month, to say the least, and it’s one of those phases in your life that you just want to fold up, bury, erase, and forget, in order to move on. *sigh* If only I had Marty’s DeLorean, or Hiro‘s power, or Hermione’s Time-Turner, I’d probably go back to September 26, 2005… *another sigh*

Anyway, enough wishful thinking. I’ll just try my best to recall what’s been, and what’s going to be happening.

1. I’m still addicted to Civ4. Every now and then, I would hear Baba Yetu, and I can’t help but hum it inside my head.

2. I just got “discharged” out of the Physical Rehabilitation Department of Manila Doctors Hospital, after 5 weeks of physical therapy and an EMG-NCV test. Diagnosis: subclinical carpal tunnel syndrome. Treatment: proper posture and regular exercise. What’s next: back to attempting to cure my chronic cough

3. For my birthday, Beej and I sang our hearts out (and recorded it on CD) at the World Music Room. (Just thought I’d add something funny in this list… hehe.)

4. We have 3 sessions remaining in our weekly tennis class. Hopefully, after that, we’ll be able to play the game by ourselves, without fear of embarassment.

5. Got hit on my rear bumper by a stupid McDonald’s delivery bike, then just more than a week after, got hit by a dumbass drunk motorcycle driver without a helmet, driver’s license, or license plate on my front bumper and fender. Lindsey’s been in the motorshop for 4 days now, and won’t be out for another week and a half. Result: Thousands of pesos in car damages and I’m back to commuting after months of being spoiled.

6. Heroes finale sucked. Grey’s Anatomy finale sucked. CSI finale sucked (it was too much of a cliffhanger). Spider-man 3 was over-rated. Pirates 3 made me fall asleep. When the hell is Blades of Glory showing here in Manila?

7. I huffed and puffed through our sportsfest, after 5 minutes of playing time in basketball. I have GOT to get back in shape.

8. Went to Pearli & Vincent’s wedding. Our list of single friends just keeps on getting shorter and shorter by the month…

9. Can’t think of anything else to say… umm… kami pa rin ni Beej;)   Sorry, I just needed to make this list reach no. 9. :)

By the way, don’t try to make sense of the title.  It doesn’t make sense.
